Track the world's greatest wildlife spectacle — 1.5 million wildebeest, half a million zebra, and the predators that follow them.
The Great Migration is the largest mammal movement on Earth — a constant, year-round circle of 1.5 million wildebeest, half a million zebra and thousands of gazelle following the rains across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. This safari is built around finding the herds wherever they are during your dates.
Our team monitors the migration in real-time. Depending on the season, your itinerary may focus on the southern calving grounds (Jan–Mar), western corridor crossings (May–Jul), the dramatic Mara River crossings of northern Serengeti (Jul–Oct), or the return movement (Nov–Dec). Each season has its own magic.
Morning pickup and drive to Tarangire National Park (3.5 hours). Picnic lunch in the park, then a full afternoon game drive among the elephant herds and baobab trees. Overnight at lodge or tented camp near the park.
Drive via the Ngorongoro highlands to the Serengeti. Your guide will take you to the area where the migration is currently — central Serengeti for resident game (Jul–Oct northern Mara River area; Dec–Mar southern Ndutu plains, etc.). Afternoon game drive en route to your camp.
Full day in the heart of the migration. Your guide knows the latest herd movements and will position you for the most dramatic encounters — river crossings, predator action, river of wildebeest stretching to the horizon.
Another full day with early start to catch hunting predators. Lions on kopjes, cheetahs on the open plains, leopards in sausage trees. Optional early morning hot-air balloon safari (extra cost — highly recommended for migration season).
Morning game drive in the Serengeti, then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Optional stop at Olduvai Gorge (the "Cradle of Mankind") or a Maasai boma visit. Overnight on the crater rim — pack warm clothes.
Pre-dawn descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive — the densest wildlife concentration on earth, and your best chance to spot the rare black rhino. Ascend, then drive back to Arusha/Moshi or Kilimanjaro Airport (arriving by 6pm).
